[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Chenrezig is the Tibetan name (Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit) for the Bodhisattva of Infinite Compassion in Mahayana and Tibetan Buddhism, embodying the compassionate love of all Buddhas. Known as the protector of Tibet, Chenrezig is believed to manifest in many forms to help sentient beings. Often depicted with four arms, representing the four virtues: love, compassion, joy, and equanimity (or self-control). He is typically white, symbolizing purity.<\/p>\n

He is commonly visualized as a four-armed deity holding a crystal rosary and a white lotus, representing the four virtues: love, compassion, joy, and equanimity (or self-control). He is typically white, symbolizing purity. In this drawing he has 1,000 arms which represent his ability to help relieve the suffering of all sentient beings. He also has 11 heads that represent his ability to see in all directions of the universe to aid suffering beings. The six-syllable mantra, \u2018Om Mani Padme Hum\u2019, is associated with him and is used to invoke his benevolent, compassionate power.<\/p>\n

This 1,000 armed version of Chenrezig can also be seen as a map of the human energy body. The 10,000 arms as well as symbolically representing the compassionate activity of the deity, it also represents the fine nadi channels that are connected to all living beings. Moving upwards we have the 11 heads that can be seen as symbolising the perfection of all the Bodhisattva Bhumis which are levels of spiritual attainment. At the centre of his body Chenrezig holds the Bodhicitta which represents the wisdom of nonduality which is where both the deity emanates from and where the selflessness of his compassion come from.<\/p>\n
